Consider getting a pet as a way to relieve stress. Having a dog waiting for you at home with his tail wagging can be a great boost after a hard, stressful day at work. Even jut have a fish can really improve your mood. But don’t take on a pet if you’re not going to be able to care for it.
If you’re feeling stressed, try going for a massage. Getting a nice massage is a great way to have the physical tension worked out of your body. If your body is less physically tense, your mind can be less mentally tense. Massages are a great way to relax and forget about the world.
Number your stress level from 1-10. One would be a minor problem, while ten would be something catastrophic. This type of objectivity may make it easier to avoid becoming overly stressed by minor events.
Admit your stress. Each of us have our own stress signal, whether is it teeth gritting, neck pain, shoulder pain, shallow breathing, or loss of temper. Take time to figure out what yours is and then say out loud, “I am feeling stressed” once you start to feel that way. Saying it and realizing you are starting to feel stressed will help slow down the negative emotions.
Exercise is wonderful to relieve stress. It gets your heart rate pumping and takes your mind off of the stressful events in your life. Consider activities such as walking, tennis, running, swimming or biking. Stress related chemicals are burned off during exercise and it is healthy for you and your heart!
Persistent headaches are one of the more common symptoms of stress. That’s why we often refer to an undesirable experience or task as a headache! There could, of course, be other underlying problems that are contributing to headaches but stress should certainly be investigated as one of the more logical culprits.
One great way to deal with stress is to be sure that you are not projecting your stress upon somebody else and taking them down with you. This is important because you need to deal with your own stress yourself and not assert blame on anybody if they are not responsible.
Find more positive and productive ways to work through your stress. For example, overeating when you are stressed can be replaced by exercising. A more well-rounded, healthy coping mechanism will be more effective for managing stress, and it will also improve your overall health.
